Le Labo – Fragrances Made With Passion And Soul

by John Carter, New York, USA | March 15, 2017

The craftsmanship and thought that goes into the design of each and every aspect of the Le Labo range of products is not just dedicated to creating the finest fragrances that money that can buy, it also extends to the creativity of the artists and designers of their range of spectacular accessories. Just take a look at their stunning nebuliser to see what can be done when a group of passionate New Yorkers get together to create something truly unique.

The Santal 26 Home Nebuliser is crafted from a piece of reclaimed timber taken from the old water tanks of New York City and is individually stamped with its own personal serial number to provide you with a piece of history that looks as good as it works. The retro light bulb fitting with its beautiful glowing element perfectly complements the delightfully crafted diffuser bulb against the wooden base. The best thing is that it works like a dream.

The small brass knob on the base controls both the intensity of the light and of the scent and is a feature unique to Le Labo; it even has a patent pending on its design.

The nebulisation effect was desired because Le Labo did not wish to break down the olfactory experience of the Santal 26 fragrance by diluting it in water or solvents or by applying heat to the base fragrance oil. This means that the scent in your room from the nebuliser is created by turning the Santal 26 oil into a fine mist that lasts longer than traditional room fragrances.

But Le Labo is not just about ensuring your home smells great with nebulisers and candles, it is also a leading independent creator of fine fragrances for the body that also touch the soul. Their wide range of scents and fine fragrances can be found in everything from eau de parfum, body oils and lotions, shower gels and even a solid perfume stick that is a brand new way to wear your signature scent. Plus it looks great too and is a great talking point when ever you bring it out to freshen up.

The people behind Le Labo have a wonderful manifesto that expresses their belief in what fine perfumery and life should be about. So far from me trying to adlib their words, here it is;

We believe that there are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances

We believe the soul of a fragrance comes from the intention with which it is created and the attention with which it is prepared

We believe fine perfumery must create a shock – the shock of the new, combined with the shock of the intimately familiar

We believe that fine perfumery must be irreverent

We believe it is more humane to test cosmetics on New Yorkers than on animals

We believe celebrities should pay full price

We believe the future of luxury (hence of perfumery) lies in craftsmanship

We believe in the soulful power of thoughtful hands: hand-picked roses, hand-poured candles, hand-formulated perfumes and handshake agreements

We believe in the passionate souls who work close to us

We believe in Hafiz’s take on life: “Act great, dear. Always act great”

We believe New York made us this way, with a dose of Wabi-Sabi and a few lines from Thoreau

We believe we/you should put away our modern tools and take the time to smell the roses along the way

We believe that we are only young once, but we can be immature forever

And we believe that explanation kills art. Therefore, forget about all of this!
